No matter who in an organization has the original inspiration to join The Business Council of Westchester’s Green Business Partnership, it’s critical for owners/management to get employees engaged and excited from the onset. The success of this approach was certainly evident when we celebrated JP McHale Pest Management, Inc.’s certification.

Not only did Vice President Rich McHale set the tone right away when they first joined the GBP by sending a companywide email about their new mission to go green. He also said that the organization would work toward certification to show its employees, clients, community and competitors that JP McHale Pest Management, Inc. is committed to sustainability, and to create opportunities to collaborate with other like-minded business leaders. Now, by adding the Green Business Partnership’s certification seal to all of their marketing material, they encourage clients and community members to consider the Earth, and set the bar high for others in the industry.

The 150-person company, now the only green certified pest management company in the world, was already practicing integrated pest management and using organic products to serve customers. Through our program, the staff identified other key areas of focus, including transportation, employee awareness, paper use, and green purchasing – and then worked together to create solutions. According to Director of Sales and Marketing Rob Rieger, the unification of staff (some of whom work in the office and others in the field) was a major ancillary benefit of achieving certification.

We once again congratulate BCW member JP McHale Pest Management, Inc. and thank its leadership for looking forward and feeling obligated to “minimize their organization’s impact, and maximize future generations’ ability to live, work, and play in our shared natural environment, with equal access to clean air, clean water, and natural resources.” That’s what it’s all about!
