BCW Stands with Murphy in Calling for State Infrastructure Funding

The BCW joined Senator Terrence Murphy this week at a news conference unveiling the New York State Water Infrastructure Relief Act. The proposed legislation would provide a $10 million a year award to a qualifying municipal project.

John Ravitz, Vice President and COO of the Business Council of Westchester, said he attended the news conference to support Murphy because local municipalities cannot afford to shoulder the burden of funding needed repairs to our infrastructure.

“Unfunded mandates are crippling our community and passing on an unfair tax burden to local residents,’’ said Ravitz. “Providing clean water should not be the responsibility of local taxpayer alone. Senator Murphy’s New York State Water Infrastructure Relief Act will help local municipalities fund these projects.’’

Murphy also announced his support for the Clean Water Bond Act of 2017, saying that it would help provide funding to combat storm and waste water contamination of our drinking water.

“We have an obligation as public servants to protect the long-term health of our residents,’’ said Murphy. “Together, the New York State Water Infrastructure Relief Act and the Clean Water Bond Act will provide the financial assistance our communities need to face the environmental concerns in our region.”
