BCW Members Share Their Secrets For Success

The Professional Women of Westchester recently hosted the What’s Driving Female Business Leaders of Westchester panel in Tarrytown. The panel included four Westchester County successful business women that are members of the BCW.

The panelists were Shirley Acevedo Buontempo, Founder/Executive Director, Latino U College Access; Millie Hernandez-Becker, President, Skyqueen Enterprises; Kara Mac (Schwartz), Creator, ShoeCandy by Kara Mac; and Stacey Tompkins, President, Tompkins Excavation. The discussion was moderated by Lisa Kaslyn, President of Prosper Communications.

Over sixty Westchester women attended this event and were motivated by the information and energy the panelists shared. “I loved this event. It was so inspiring to hear the passion, commitment and drive that all panelist have towards their professions to be successful especially as a woman. Thank you Jamie for putting these events together!,” said Laura Rey Iannarelli, President & CEO, Rey Insurance Agency, Inc.

Each of the panelists, in diverse industries, shared business experiences and professional mantras that have been instrumental with their success. Tompkins of Tompkins Excavating encouraged “Be loyal to yourself, friends, family, employees and your clients’ and equally important ‘Stay true to your values and goals and believe in yourself”. Millie Becker of Skyqueen Enterprises added “Forget fear, ignore it and don’t listen to it. It can paralyze you. In business and in life, you should be looking forward all the time. Fear is a useless emotion that drains you. If you can remember that and think that way you will be successful in everything.”

“As women in business, we all have a unique journey, but most of us have similar challenges and blind spots,” said Jamie Imperati, president, Professional Women of Westchester. “Through panels like these, our members gain access to decades of experience from successful women, like Millie, Stacey, Kara, and Shirley, which helps them navigate those unknowns while mitigating mistakes and saving time.” said Jamie Imperati, President and Founder at Professional Women of Westchester.

Amanda Bayley, Co-Founder, Plan it Wild stated that it was “So refreshing to see women in top positions sharing their knowledge. The world will be a better place when more women are in power. This is what I want my future to look like.”
