In the final debate before the June 23 Democratic primary, candidates for Nita Lowey’s 17th Congressional district seat faced off on a host of issues vital to the district and the nation.

Deftly moderated by News 12 Reporter Tara Rosenblum and BCW Vice President and COO John Ravitz, the candidates covered a lot of ground on the issues during the debate, part of the BCW Political Leadership Series.  The seven candidates discussed the repeal of SALT (state and local tax) deduction cap; racial injustice, economic reemergence from coronavirus, energy and the Green New Deal, health and Medicare for All among other issues.

Candidates included Assemblyman and former White Plains Common Council member David Buchwald; New York State Senator and former Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci; educator and a U.S Army combat veteran Asha Castleberry-Hernandez; Former deputy assistant secretary of defense under President Barack Obama Evelyn Farkas; former chairwoman of the national board of NARAL Pro Choice America Foundation Alison Fine; Former Westchester County law department employee and Harvard Law grad Mondaire Jones; Adam Schliefer, a former assistant U.S. attorney in California.

“As the leading business organization in Westchester we continue to advocate for our members and present opportunities to put our views before our elected officials,” said Ravitz. “By hosting this debate we were able to press the candidates’ on the issues most important to the business community.’’
