Clean Energy Report: Momentum in Westchester

On Monday, the BCW Clean Energy Action Coalition (CEAC) released its annual report, 2025 Results, 2026 Action, which underscores the undeniable momentum we have built in this 2nd year of the CEAC program, whose overall goal is to help Westchester build a reliable, affordable, and sustainable grid that will allow us to recruit and retain businesses.
Now more than 120 organizations strong, state officials recognized our collaborative network as a statewide model for clean energy leadership, proving that a unified focus on practical, near-term solutions can effectively lower energy costs and slash emissions.
This report celebrates our shared successes and outlines our strategic path forward, demonstrating how local partnerships are successfully driving the transition to a cleaner, more resilient and affordable energy future.
The 2026 program priorities include:
- Reducing Electricity Costs and Supporting Grid Reliability by participating in energy efficiency and demand response programs, which saved participants millions of dollars and “kept the lights on” in June with 1,000 MWs of reduced peak demand (equal to half the capacity of the defunct Indian Point nuclear power plant).
- Municipal, School and Firefighter Education on clean energy and safety. While a few fires have ignited opposition – the chance of a battery energy storage system fire is lower than a lightning strike.
- Streamlining Municipal Approvals by working directly with local governments to standardize and expedite permitting processes for critically needed solar and battery storage projects.
- Increase Renewal Diesel Adoption for heavy duty equipment and heating oil consumers to reduce emissions by two thirds without any changes in infrastructure.
