New York State Senate Majority Leader Visits Amazon Facility on Tour Arranged by BCW
Led by BCW Executive Vice President & COO John Ravitz, New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins recently took a personal tour arranged by the BCW of the new Amazon Delivery Station in Hawthorne.
The new state-of-the-art last mile delivery station, which is the first one in Westchester County, serves as the last stop before a package gets delivered to a customer’s doorstep.
Located at 231 Saw Mill River Road, (Route 9A), the 150,000-square-foot multilevel building serves most of the region and currently delivers on average tens of thousands of packages on a daily basis. Packages are shipped from neighboring Amazon Fulfillment and Sortation Centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers. Nearly all deliveries are within a 45-minute drive of the warehouse.
The Majority Leader had the opportunity on the tour to speak with Amazon employees who shared with her their experiences working in the new facility.
The new facility is an economic boon to Westchester and the Hudson Valley region creating jobs and generating tax revenue the Town of Mount Pleasant, Westchester County and New York State. The facility currently employs more than 150 employees, the busiest time for the operation is overnight.
Since 2010, BCW Member Amazon has invested more than $30 billion in New York State, including infrastructure and compensation to employees, and has created more than 41,000 direct jobs across the state. These investments support an additional 70,800 indirect jobs across the state, in fields like construction and professional services, and have contributed more than $25.1 billion to the New York GDP, on top of the company’s direct investments.
“The Amazon facility in Hawthrone has been a tremendous win for the county as it has created jobs. And Amazon has already shown that they are solid corporate citizens and that their employees have done programs with numerus BCW NFPs like Feeding Westchester,” said Ravtiz. He added, “The BCW has been proud to schedule tours of new facilities for elected officials on all levels of government.”
Also joining the tour was Andra Horsch, Vice President of State Government Affairs for the BCW.
