Wilder Balter Partners Opens Peekskill Affordable Housing
BCW member Wilder Balter Partners celebrated the opening of its new, 82-unit affordable housing development in Peekskill on Monday.
The Chappaqua-based developer partnered with the Housing Action Council for the $51 million rental apartments project that will be accessible to households earning from 40% to 80% of the county’s Area Median Income (AMI). According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Westchester County’s AMI for 2023 is $102,800 for a single person and $132,150 for a family of three.
William Balter, president of Wilder Balter Partners, told the Westchester County Business Journal that the project brings “much-needed affordable housing for families in upper Westchester that can benefit from a home within walking distance to Peekskill’s vibrant downtown and Metro-North’s train station.”
The building at 645 Main Street is energy efficient and has rooftop solar panels. The unit mix is 18 one-bedrooms, 50 two-bedrooms and 14 three-bedrooms. The property’s garage is under the apartments and contains 140 spaces with 30 electric vehicle charging stations.
Residential amenities include a community room, rooftop courtyard, lounge spaces, a fitness center, a laundry room, and an onsite management office.
Besides providing urgently needed affordable housing, the development also reclaimed contaminated land that was remediated under New York’s brownfields-cleanup program.
