Hudson River Museum to Present Rarely Seen Steichen Painting

Westfair News: The Hudson River Museum is presenting “Edward Steichen: In Exaltation of Flowers,” opening March 10 and remaining on display through Feb. 18, 2024. While Steichen is celebrated as an iconic photographer, he was also a gifted painter. The exhibition highlights Steichen’s most ambitious project as a painter: three large-scale paintings, on loan from Art Bridges, which he created on the cusp of World War I as part of a series of seven murals that were commissioned to decorate a New York City townhouse.

The paintings in the exhibition are complemented by photographs from the Museum’s collection and key loans, including a self-portrait by Steichen, works that depict women and flowers, as well as photographs by Rudolf Eickemeyer Jr., a contemporary of Steichen and one of the museum’s founders.
