Dr. Marsha Gordon Touts Westchester Investment Opportunities During Major NYC Real Estate Expo

The 2018 NYC Real Estate Expo brought together top commercial and residential real estate professionals for a day of networking, panel discussions and exhibitions on Wednesday, including a panel titled “Westchester – Opportunity Knocks,” featuring Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester.
Focused on the advantages of investing in Westchester, the panel was moderated by Westchester County Executive George Latimer and also featured:
- Paul Adler, Esq., Chief Strategy Officer, Rand Commercial
- Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester
- Sarah Jones-Maturo, President, RM Friedland
- Robert P. Weisz, CEO, RPW Group
When asked for her view on the growing Westchester County economy and in what locations and sectors provide an opportunity for investment, Gordon told the crowd:
“Westchester County has moved beyond being defined as just a ‘bedroom community’ of New York City. Sure, we still feed off the economic prowess of the City, but over the years, we have grown into other rooms of that economic house. We’re the ‘kitchen,’ with the explosive growth of the craft beverage and specialty food industries. We’re the ‘rec room,’ with massive zones of shopping, gaming and other forms of cultural entertainment. We’re the ‘den and home office’ space to thousands of small-to-midsize business that were priced out of the NYC marketplace yet still needed access via many trains and bus lines as well as roads connecting the two areas together. We’re the ‘library’ and ‘IT,’ as the county has an incredible spectrum of colleges, universities, tech schools and K-12 schools (public and private) that focus like a laser light on producing the finest workforce in the tristate area. We’re the ‘infirmary’ because of our thriving biotech and health services industries. We’re the actual construction of the house, if you look at all the multi-residential developments taking place. We’re even the plumbing if you count the massive amounts of water that flow through the county on its way to NYC!
“We have seen incredible growth of late in our major cities. Yonkers, which is attracting major technology employers; New Rochelle, which is currently undertaking a massive reimagining of the city’s downtown hub surrounding the train station; and Peekskill, too, is experiencing a renaissance in the creative arts and revitalization of its waterfront zone.
“You are also seeing former corporate campuses taking on new life with the growth of health care, hospitality and most importantly, the first Wegman’s supermarket in the region.
“The LIVE-WORK-PLAY model is just as important in Westchester as it is in NYC, so we too are embracing this concept and making it part of the development picture in the county rather than compartmentalizing it as we used to do.”
For any business looking to relocate to Westchester or to expand its footprint in Westchester, Gordon explained:
“The Business Council of Westchester is the bridge to connect you to the resources you need for making that relocation happen… We’re your Google search for Westchester County. And it all starts with one phone call or one email.”
The NYC Real Estate Expo was presented by the NYC Network Group at the NY Hilton Midtown. The Hudson Gateway Association of REALTORS (HGAR) was an event sponsor and hosted the Westchester County panel.
