BCW Member WMCHealth Expands Coordinated Care with New Specialty Pharmacy

Business Council of Westchester member Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is expanding access to coordinated, specialized healthcare in the region with the opening of the new Westchester Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy.

Designed to support patients living with complex, chronic and rare conditions, the in-network specialty pharmacy brings WMCHealth physicians, pharmacists and patients together within one integrated care environment. The goal is to simplify access to specialty medications while providing patients with the clinical guidance, insurance support and ongoing follow-up often required throughout treatment.

For patients receiving specialty care, obtaining medication can be a complicated process involving outside pharmacies, insurance authorizations and multiple providers. WMCHealth’s new model seeks to reduce those barriers by keeping more of the process connected directly to a patient’s existing care team and medical record.

The pharmacy team works alongside patients and providers to investigate insurance benefits, complete payer requirements, identify available financial assistance programs and help reduce out-of-pocket barriers whenever possible. Patients can also receive medication counseling, refill coordination, clinical follow-up and delivery support.

The new pharmacy is particularly significant for patients undergoing treatment for conditions where timely access to medication can be critical, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases and complex pediatric conditions.

Looking ahead, WMCHealth expects the specialty pharmacy to support the continued expansion of advanced care throughout its network, including oncology, complex pediatrics, transplant care, cellular and gene therapies, infusion services and other sophisticated treatment programs.
