BCW Holds First Head-to-Head County Executive Debate

L to R: BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon; State Senator and Democratic Challenger George Latimer, Moderator Lee Miringoff, Director, Marist Institute for Public Opinion; Westchester County Executive Republican Rob Astorino and BCW Board Chairman Anthony Justic.

Republican incumbent Rob Astorino and Democratic challenger State Senator George Latimer faced off October 10 in the first head-to-head debate in the race for Westchester County Executive.

Presented by The Business Council of Westchester, the spirited debate featured the two candidates jousting over taxes, the future of the Westchester County Airport, the closing of Indian Point and gun shows at the Westchester County Center. The 70-minute debate held at the Reckson Metro Center in White Plains was moderated by nationally respected pollster and political expert Lee Miringoff, Director, Marist Institute for Public Opinion.

Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester, said that the debate was an example of the organization’s practice of informing its members on issues of interest to the community. “We were honored to host this debate which brought out many issues of importance to the business community. Many of these issues such as the Westchester County Airport, economic development, jobs creation and the closing of Indian Point are ones that the BCW has been closely involved in,’’ she said. “We thank the two candidates for participating and are very pleased with the tremendous turnout.’’
