The Nicholas Center

“When The Nicholas Center expanded its services from Long Island to Pleasantville at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we faced the daunting challenge of establishing ourselves in a new county during a period of widespread shutdowns and uncertainty. Joining the Business Council of Westchester became our bridge to the community.

Autistic adults, an often marginalized population, face a devastating 85% rate of unemployment and under-engagement with community. Through the exceptional guidance, support, and introductions from Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO, and Linda Tyler, Vice President of Membership & Programming, BCW actively helped us start to dismantle those barriers. The networking events, resources, and connections provided were pivotal in helping us achieve one of our core values: becoming deeply folded into the fabric of the community.

Now marking six years in Westchester, The Nicholas Center is proud to feel fully integrated, recognized, and invited to collaborate across sectors. The partnerships forged through BCW have opened doors for the Autistic young adults we serve—providing them with essential vocational skills training, meaningful community engagement, and transformative employment opportunities. Belonging to the BCW network has transformed how we connect, grow, and create meaningful opportunities for our participants. We are deeply proud to be BCW members!”
