Wartburg Named Among Best Nursing Homes In New York
Wartburg’s Skilled Nursing Facility located in Mount Vernon, NY, was named one of the “Best Nursing Homes in New York State” by U.S. News & World Report. The nursing home, which offers residential living for those needing long term care, with a specialized dementia floor and a specially trained staff, received a 5-Star Quality Rating, the top rating a facility can achieve. Only 16% of skilled nursing facilities nationwide earned this distinction. Wartburg was one of only 38 in New York State to receive an overall rating of five out of five.
“I’m extremely proud of our continued presence as a top-tier nursing home in New York State, which is only possible because of our employees’ steadfast commitment to carrying out our mission,” said Dr. David Gentner, Wartburg’s President and CEO. “The way the nursing home teams works together to provide comfort to those entrusted to our care while offering a sense of healing, hope and security to our families is what’s most important.”
“Choosing the right nursing home based on care needs and comfort is a critical decision for prospective residents and their families,” said Zach Adams, senior health data engineer at U.S. News. “The Best Nursing Homes ratings highlight nursing homes that excel in short-term rehabilitation and long-term care needs. This year, newly available data on weekend staffing and infection rates that led to hospitalizations provides even more information about how nursing homes rate when it comes to the safety of their residents.”
“We are honored to be ranked among the best nursing homes in the nation. Providing high quality care remains our top priority and distinguishes us as a top performer. This achievement recognizes the staff for their commitment to making Wartburg the right place for families to choose for the care of their loved ones,” said Bridgett Zimmerman, Administrator for Wartburg.
The Best Nursing Homes methodology factors in data such as resident care, safety and outcomes. To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of data obtained from CMS. Both short- and long-term ratings include data on consistency of registered nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs, and success in preventing emergency room and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also includes measures of whether a nursing home changed ownership and how well they were staffed on weekends. The short-term rehabilitation rating also includes measures of a nursing home’s success in preventing falls, preventing serious infections and making sure residents are able to return home.
