URGENT: How BCW members can help the Red Cross address the national blood crisis
The Red Cross is currently facing a significant blood shortage, with summer donations at their lowest level in years while hospital demand remains high. For only the second time in our history the American Red Cross has declared a national blood crisis. Blood is needed every day for patients undergoing cancer treatments, surgeries, trauma care, and other medical emergencies.
We are asking BCW members to consider donating blood at one of our convenient local locations, including our Greenwich Donor Center, located just off I-95, or at one of the many community blood drives taking place throughout Westchester County and the surrounding area. Appointments can be scheduled at RedCrossBlood.org or by searching for a nearby drive on our website. If you’re willing and able to amplify the critical need for blood donations with your network and colleagues, we would greatly appreciate it.
A few important facts:
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
There is no substitute for blood. It can only come from volunteer donors.
One blood donation can help save more than one life.
American Red Cross provides 40% of the blood supply in the US.
