MorDance Embarks on Thrilling New Chapter with Relocation to Yonkers

YONKERS, NY – [12/27/2023] – MorDance, the trailblazing ballet company renowned for pushing artistic boundaries and fostering impactful social change, is delighted to announce its exciting relocation to the vibrant city of Yonkers. This strategic move marks a pivotal moment in MorDance’s history, opening doors to expanded opportunities, heightened community engagement, and the realization of the company’s long-term vision.

Founded in NYC in 2014, MorDance has consistently challenged ballet’s traditional structures to embody a more inclusive and diverse vision of the artform. Now, as MorDance sets its sights on Yonkers, the company is poised to infuse the city with its unique blend of contemporary ballet and artistic innovation.

Founder and Artistic Director, Morgan McEwen, expressed her enthusiasm for the move, stating, “Yonkers offers a vibrant cultural landscape, and we are eager to contribute to its artistic tapestry. Our relocation is not just about finding a new home for MorDance; it’s about building bridges through the transformative power of ballet. We believe in the ability of the arts to inspire, connect, and enrich lives, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey in Yonkers.”

MorDance is actively preparing for this exciting transition, laying the groundwork for a new space that will serve as its creative hub and a center for ballet excellence. This move aligns with MorDance’s commitment to fostering a deeper connection with audiences and communities, both in Yonkers and beyond.

Through the generosity of AMS Acquisitions, MorDance will take up temporary residence in an extraordinary 12,000-square-foot venue in the heart of downtown Yonkers overlooking the Hudson River. The company perceives this incredible opportunity as a prelude to establishing a lasting legacy and forever home in Yonkers. This interim space will serve as a dynamic platform for MorDance to immerse itself in the local community, cultivate a new more expansive audience base, and launch outreach initiatives.

Looking ahead, MorDance envisions the establishment of a 200-seat black box theater and rehearsal space. More than a mere venue, the center will embody the company’s core values of community, creativity, and collaboration. This ambitious project reflects MorDance’s commitment to leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of Yonkers.

MorDance’s plans for the upcoming year are nothing short of ambitious. The company is set to unveil an expanded and captivating programming lineup, promising audiences an immersive and unforgettable ballet experience. As the Hudson River Museum’s Spring/Summer 2024 Teaching Artist In Residence, MorDance is thrilled to collaborate with the Museum on multiple public events and performances inspired by the exhibition Rivers Flow/Artists Connect.

MorDance will kick off its first Yonkers performance season from April 30 to May 4, followed by its long-standing NYC season at New York Live Arts in Manhattan. The company plans to open its rehearsals to the public regularly in Yonkers, and anticipates launching a series of free outdoor performances in the summer of 2024. MorDance is excited to expand its outreach programs into the Yonkers and Westchester communities while maintaining its current programs in NYC.
