Yonkers Housing Authority Partners with SilverBills

by The BCW

Yonkers, N.Y. (March 16, 2022) – Silverbills will begin its first partnership with a public housing authority in Yonkers, N.Y., where it will offer bill management services to the authority’s elderly residents.

The Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers will encourage senior citizens in its public housing to sign up with SilverBills, a National Institutes of Health-funded technology company based in New Rochelle. The partnership was facilitated by the Westchester Innovation Network, a program launched by the Business Council of Westchester that aims at driving economic development, innovation, and growth in Westchester County, N.Y.

“SilverBills will provide household bill management services to older adults and allow them to age in their homes without suffering the consequences of improper household bill management,” said SilverBills CEO Marci Lobel-Esrig.

Seniors can have a difficult time keeping current with bills. Forgetfulness and mistakes can make seniors vulnerable to dire consequences such as termination of insurance benefits or financial exploitation.

Silverbills’ retail cost is more than $1,000 annually, but a private grant will allow the company to offer the service to Yonkers’ low-income public housing residents for free.

“We are hopeful that successful automation of our residents’ bill payments could serve as a model for other housing authorities nationwide,” said Wilson Kimball, chief executive of MHACY.The BCW’s WIN program has identified 60 potential innovator partners looking to be paired locally to test a product or service.
