In what are encouraging signs for Westchester’s economy, two significant retail developments were in the news this week. In the Town of Mount Pleasant, BCW Member Amazon is moving ahead on construction of a 150,000-square-foot facility at 211 Saw Mill River Road (Route 9A) in Hawthorne. The new facility will feature 136,000 square feet of warehouse space and 14,000 square feet of office space. Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator (WCBA) has announced the third cohort of emerging biosciences ventures invited to join the annual program. Twelve ventures will engage in the 6 month-long program that features entrepreneurship education, coaching and mentoring, to develop fundable business plans and expand the Biosciences community in Westchester. Westchester Community College and Marx Realty this week finalized a 10-year lease for WCC to move into 40,000 square feet of space on the third floor of the former Sears store at Cross County Center in Yonkers.  WCC, which is an existing tenant at the center, plans to offer additional degree and certification programs through its expanded presence at the shopping center.
