Greyston Bakery along with fellow business leaders from St. John’s Riverside Hospital and CleanCraft, held a panel discussion at the Yonkers Public Library on Wednesday, May 8th exploring the benefits of Open Hiring to recruit talent.
A Yonkers-based social enterprise built on the philosophy and practice of Open Hiring, Greyston has been using the Open Hiring model with success for many years.
The 90-minute panel discussion was moderated by Business Council of Westchester President and CEO, Marsha Gordon. The panel discussed re-envisioning human capital hiring practices and how the Open Hiring Model can positively affect a company’s morale, employee retention, corporate responsibility, and their bottom line. Attendees were shown real-life examples of how the traditional approach to hiring and managing talent can be radically improved as well as new ways businesses can attract and keep dedicated and reliable talent.
In short, Open Hiring is a model of hiring developed over 37 years that seeks to fill jobs without judging applicants or asking any questions, thereby creating opportunities for those who have been kept out of the workforce. These groups include women, men, people of color, people of all faiths and sexual orientations, immigrants and refugees, those living in poverty or who have spent time in prison, and anyone else who has faced barriers to employment.
